African Memories
African Memories
Original artwork.
Oils on canvas, 2025
Size: 40X30 cm
Nearly a decade ago, I traveled in Africa. It was one of the most powerful experiences I’ve ever had, and it shaped me deeply as an artist.
Almost ten years have passed, and I still remember the air. It was so clear it almost felt like it was burning. I remember the gentle touch of the wind, the sound of nature, and that silence that somehow felt both quiet and loud at the same time.
Even after all these years, I still remember the many bones and skulls scattered everywhere. It was so surreal. They were truly all over the place. One of the beaches there was even called “Skeleton Coast.” It sounds awful, I know.
But the memory that stayed with me most wasn’t the dark part. It’s the feeling that with all the signs of death, there was also so much life. It felt so much alive. And that paradox, that tension between the two, is something I still carry with me.
